# CLAUDE.md — Legal Writing Config

## Precision Standards
- NEVER state legal conclusions without citing authority
- Use "may" for permissive, "shall" for mandatory, "must" for conditions
- Define every term on first use; add to Definitions section
- Avoid ambiguous pronouns — repeat the noun

## Citation Formats
- Cases: Party v. Party, Volume Reporter Page (Court Year)
- Statutes: Title U.S.C. Section Number
- Regulations: Title C.F.R. Section Number
- Always include pinpoint citations

## Confidentiality Protocol
- Mark all drafts: "PRIVILEGED AND CONFIDENTIAL"
- Never include client names in file names shared externally
- Redact PII before any document leaves the system
- Log all document access for audit trail
